Navigating a rapid transition to a distributed workforce

Having built a successful business over ten years with a highly distributed workforce, you might say we’re one of the OGs when it comes to working remotely. Whilst (some of) our distribution is deliberate, we’ve been at it for a long time and this has made the transition to take the entire company remote during the COVID-19 pandemic a reasonably seamless one.

However, for many companies that now find themselves suddenly distributed due to the COVID-19 crises, this is a totally new concept and requires a new way of thinking about employee engagement and collaboration.

Our Social Intranet Solution, built on Salesforce Community Cloud, offers a social and functional front door for any internal workforce. It’s designed to connect teams and colleagues across the world. Social sharing, group memberships, and quick access to pertinent information build camaraderie and engagement across all roles, in all locations.

One of our valued clients Fonterra, the world’s largest dairy exporter, required a new platform to connect employees at all levels. With more than 22,000 team members, Fonterra was looking for a way to share knowledge and ideas, collaborate across teams and locations, and to build relationships on a truly global scale.

The solution needed to be easily accessible on any device at any time, provide two-way communication with real-time feedback and have a simple, clean navigation and interface - with a little bit of fun added to the functionality as well.

Today, this new community platform, internally called MilkyWay, is the primary channel for connection and information across Fonterra’s network.
